OCTOBER 2011 – MCMICHAEL ART SALE & SHOW

This is the first year that I have exhibited at the McMichael Autumn Art Sale held at the McMichael Gallery in Kleinberg Ontario in support of the McMichael Canadian Art Collection. The show & sale opened Friday October 21st attracting several hundred visitors to the gallery and continued throughout the weekend.

I was continually engaged in conversation with family, friends and visitors of the McMichael. Meeting the other artists and sharing ideas and art making techniques was a professional high. It was very enjoyable and rewarding as I placed in the top 10 selling artists and have been invited back by the McMichael for the 2012 show.

“Larry the Loon”, my second collaborative children’s book is available for sale in the McMichael Gallery Gift Shop. I exhibited my loon paintings at this show as this was the series I was working on this past year. Looking forward to starting a new series in 2012.

JUNE 2011 – HANGING TOGETHER

Hanging Together was a group show for the member artists of Karma – Creative Studio. We were twelve artists exhibiting together for the first time. The artwork was quite varied including painting, photography, fibre art, mixed media, print making and encaustic.

My artwork was mixed media mounted on a board. I hand-painted a giclee print of my oil painting “Birch on Green”, mounted it on a panel and poured resin on top. I poured two coats of resin to ensure an excellent result. This piece was quite technical and challenging and I was pleased with the result. As it is mounted on a panel, it does not need a frame. A must have for a cottage owner! We had a good turn out for the opening.

DECEMBER 2, 2009 – CHUCKY BOOK LAUNCH

This group show with my fellow artists and friends, Doug Dunford, Loretta Rogers, Darcey Sills and Karen Genovese was held at the Power Plant in Toronto which was very well attended and quite successful. The evening was dedicated in memory of Ted Rogers who’s wish was for Loretta to have an art exhibition. She kindly extended the invitation to our painting group which have been painting together for several summers in Muskoka.

Our book Chucky the Lonely Inukshuk made it’s debut with proceeds going to Juvenile Diabetes complete with Doug’s original painting of “Chucky”.

My work was very well received and many Susan Gosevitz paintings were delivered the following day to their new homes. This photo is with my two sisters who are great supporters of my art, Linda Walker and Nancy Bodi.

Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation
The International Diabetes Association estimates over 246-million people wordwide are diagnosed with diabetes every year. Sadly, 70,000 of these are children with juvelile (type 1) diabetes, a condition that strikes suddenly and without warning. In Canada alone, close to 300,000 Canadians live with type 1 diabetes, marking Canada with the 6th highest incidence rate of type 1 diabetes in children 14 years or younger in the world.

JULY 2009 – WHITE BIRCH & SAM’S POINT

I was delighted when Gayle Dempsey, curator of Muskoka Place Gallery in Port Carling Ontario, invited me to be part of a two-person show with fellow artist Nola McConnan. Nola showcased small works in egg tempera and watercolour from scenes near Little Lake Joe in Muskoka and I exhibited new large oil paintings from my White Birch Series. We had a great turn out and connected with many friends and artists.

MARCH 2009 – WITH, WITHIN, WITHOUT

This group show was part of a Professional Studio course at the Toronto School of Art. We held it at The Great Hall Gallery in Toronto which was an interesting venue. It took a lot of team work to organize this event and I learned the dos and don’ts of putting on a show.

FEBRUARY 2009 – INTERPRETATIVE LANDSCAPES – SOLO EXHIBITION

Interpretative Landscapes, encaustic on paper was my first solo show.

I exhibited 10 artworks beautifully framed under museum glass. This work was the result of experimenting with encaustics over the past year and I developed a unique approach to presenting landscapes. This was a departure from my oil painting and I found it quite rewarding and challenging.
